Our Story

The 100 Mile Market in Meaford is a small grocery store bringing together local producers with local consumers. We were inspired by the book 100-Mile Diet, and by the local consumers' call for continuation into the winter months of the goods offered at the Meaford Municipal Farmers' Market founded in the summer of 2007.
The 100 Mile Market opened its doors October 6, 2007, and we have had a busy couple of years striving to meet demand for the many goods we offer. We have grown from eleven vendors to a current number over sixty – thank you for your support! Our shop operates on a consignment basis, charging a small percentage for use of the space in our ever-expanding store, and we consistently support local farmers and food producers as they bring in their goods priced by themselves, for our customers.
Foods on offer include organic grains, legumes, flours and cereals from Grass Roots Organics in Desboro, apples and berries from Barbetta Orchards in Meaford, and local naturally raised beef, lamb, pork, free range chicken, duck, turkey, elk, emu, fresh/smoked/frozen fish from a number of local farmers and producers. We also have a wide variety of goodies such as honey, maple syrup, preserves, fresh bread from The Bakery in Flesherton, goat milk products from Rivers Edge Dairy in Arthur and Wooldrift Farm in Markdale, organic yogurt and ice cream from Mapleton's in Moorefield, and artisan sheep milk cheeses from Monforte and Best Baa Farms. You really have to see it to believe it!

Some of our products include items that may not be entirely grown within 100 miles of Meaford, Ontario, but are crafted or processed/produced locally. An example of this is coffee from Kemble Mountain Roastery, which is fair trade coffee – imported, but locally roasted and processed. We work hard to maintain a balance between facilitating the supply of local food products while meeting consumer demand for items that may be grown outside of our area. We also carry a large selection of organic produce and products, as well as those that are certified naturally grown, or are simply traditionally local.
We also carry a variety of non-edibles hand-crafted locally, such as beeswax candles, goat milk, emu, and other soaps and skin care products, wooden crafts, local organic compost, plants and flowers for the garden, bat houses, and elk leather moccasins for the entire family.
We try to source new products on a regular basis so come in, see what's new at the Market and help support your local farmers.
