Baking, baking and more baking!
As the cooler weather approaches, it is a good time to fire up the oven and bake some goodies. Takes the chill out of the air and the growl out of the tummy!
Lucky for us, Judy from Sweet Delights in Meaford will be bringing fresh-baked goods for sale at the Market: date squares, butter tarts, and her famous cinnamon buns will be available starting Thursday to tempt your taste buds. We will also be happy to take orders for custom baking to be provided the week following order placement. Judy is known for her delicious pies, cheesecakes, and squares.
If you feel like baking your own, we have several delicious options to get you started, including a line of gluten-free dry mixes from Dawn's Gluten-Free in Wiarton. Conveniently packed in sealed paper bags with full instructions, these treats are easy to whip up with few ingredients to add. Pastry crust, muffin and bread, pizza crust, and brownie mixes are just a few of the choices.
At The 100 Mile Market we have many locally provided baking supplies including a variety of organic flours for bread, pastry, or other treats. Ancient grain Red Fife (wheat) flour, plus Spelt, Rye, Buckwheat, and Kamut flours, rolled Oats and other grain flakes are all on the shelves, ideal for filling your pantry. Grass Roots Organics free-range eggs and Ontario sunflower oil are handy on baking days.
We also carry organic cane sugar and several dried fruit products to sweeten the pot: organic dried Ontario Cranberries sweetened with apple juice, dried wild Ontario Blueberries, and super-food Goji Berries to name a few. And don't forget... honey and maple syrup make delicious – and local – substitutes for sugar in baking!
Wash it all down with some fresh apple cider from our fridge or freezer and you've got a complete treat.
Welcome cool Autumn days... see you this weekend!
